Out of curiosity, what are you really trying to ask?
So you find encodes of a series and don't know who did them (for whatever reason), then you re-encode them (for whatever reason), then want to release this?

Why bother?

1) What was the point of re-encoding?
2) Why do you want to release this?

I rename my files, some of which I've had for YEARS, so I don't remember who I got them from.

I have no desire to re-encode.

I'm talking about posting on the forums.

Yet:
For the most part, data conversion is re-encoding, if you are converting the video/audio, you are re-encoding. If you meant to say something different instead, elaborating would probably clear that up.

If all you do is rename video files of a show that you found somewhere on the Internet, don't have a clue who did them, and want to share them, I'd take a guess and say you should do something like this:

1) If yours is the only release/a better release of said show: Make a thread, and when putting who encoded it write: Unknown.

Therefore it shows that you just tried to upload something nice, you found and wanted to share it with people here, but dunno who to mention.

I have no authority here, so this of course is just a guess.

I use "mkvmerge", it doesn't do anything but change an avi/mp4/etc into a mkv.
My laptop HATES avi/mp4/etc for some reason so even playing with VLC Player and/or codex packs makes it all weird and lag.
A quick 'convert, but not really a convert' to mkv and it's all nice and toasty.

That's called re-muxing.

You are putting the same juice in a different cup. The juice is still the same, the cup isn't. And going from older cup (avi/mp4) to newer cup (mkv), well I wouldn't look down on that.

The same incident was happening with my friend recently!
i did advised him for re-encording the animes with mini-encoreder.At first their was a little problem to play the avi/mp4/etc but after a while it worked out & now he is enjoying which ever file he likes.At first ,for some kind of reason i think it needs format to his laptop but who think that it was this easy to solved it out.

any plans to include a dual audio release of goglo 13 ? the last 2 parts have already hit i think ( or the last part is close to hitting )
