Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann

Have you ever thought of holding Raw power in your left hand and some more with some stability in the second, and then smashing both the hands? The result you'll get is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Yeah, you heard it right, this show has got a LOT of Action with some decent story.

Your opinion on watching the first episode may vary from others, like, I liked the first episode and a friend of mine didn't. Don't get yourself screwed with the first one, it gets seriously great afterwards.

Gurren Lagann's story makes it accessible to a very wide audience. Mecha and shounen fans get a great deal of fighting and big robots. Shoujo fans get a substantial bit of romance and plenty of general cuteness. There's great general adventure for everyone else, and even Moe fans have something to look forward to. LOL.

Now, if we talk about it's Animation and Art, don't get so worked up about it. It's not that great, it good, not great. Though the fighting scenes were probably of the top class animation and the Mecha's design was very well presented. Now to Soundtrack, The Soundtrack is amazing and appropriate for the anime. You'll love it.

All in All, it was a great show and definitely gets into my Top 5 list. You MUST watch it, or else you'll be missing some good anime. My Rating: 9/10.

Welcome to the NHK!
Spoiler for Image:

This Anime, my friends, is a bit different and could be called a masterpiece. It is about a man who thinks everything around him is a conspiracy, and because of that he turns into a Hikikomori (Socially inactive person). He even figures out who is behind this all conspiracy: The NHK, an evil secret company. The other protagonist is a mysterious girl, named Misaki Nakahara. She tries to help Satou (the Hikikomori) by engaging him in her "Project".

You can call this anime very Realistic, and it defines that theme pretty well. The story is one of the top-notch ones out there, and there's even a Light Novel of NHK. The story is about a very serious subject matter but it is still full of humorous moments. The story progresses at a fair pace with a good mixture of serious episodes and some not too serious ones.

The Animation is good, won't say it's top-notch as there were some moments where you can see some glitches. Other than that the animation is consistent. When it comes to Sound, it's Awesome. I loved both the Opening and Ending, the Soundtrack was amazing also. You'll probably love it when you're watching the anime as it matches up the theme very well.
The Characters all seem realistic and the scenes are very well directed. Satou is the main character but there are those who take advantage of him.

All in All, the series is Awesome. I recommend it to anyone, whether they be Shounen lovers, Moe lovers, Shoujo lovers, and even the ones who don't like watching anime. It is THAT Great.
This was probably one of the best anime for me and I'll give it a solid 10/10, for it's enjoyment, at least.

Planetes

If you people haven't watched this series, then you're definitely lacking one Awesome anime. This series is mostly Sci-fi and drama, and contains little bits of Romance. This is by far the most realistic and teachable anime for me, there are so many things to learn by watching it. This is a futuristic slice of life that contains a lot of themes that pertain to human nature.

The story revolves around several characters residing in the Space Station ISPV-7, owned by the Technora Cooperation. Their job is to retrieve space debris. Throughout the show, many points related to future space travel are addressed, such as the obvious problem with space debris, the problem with space radiation leading to cancer and other disorders, the concept of space born children suffering from the lack of normal gravity, etc. These are all consulted and are integrated with the overall storyline. The ending, in my opinion, was the best part of the series. The Climax was just amazing.

When it comes to Characters, they are very well made and directed. The character development is very well justified in the series. Animation was superb, it was Realistic and the use of CG on the space station was a very good move. Monitor screens for the helmet are well conceived and the diagrams of orbits were nicely drawn.
Soundtrack was amazing also, Hitomi Kuroishi has done what she does best in Planetes.

All in All, this is by far the best series for me. If you haven't watched it, then Go Watch it!! It is a Masterpiece, probably the best anime of 2003/04. It gets a Killer 10/10 from my side.

P.S. If you're still not satisfied with Planetes Awesomeness, then check out my Mindblowing and Decriptive Planetes Review.

Welcome to the N.H.K. is spectacular, i spent an entire day and a half watching it non stop and came away with great respect for that series. It is superb and one of the best of any genre for many reasons. Among other things, it shows japanese life and the life of otaku culture, and some very powerful interpersonal dynamics at work in dailiy life. I would give it a 20 on a 10 point scale.

Gurren-Lagann is also a very special series. It has so much going for it it is hard to quantify it exactly for it has a unique animation style, very kinetic at times and that can be off putting for some people...but it has so many changes in mood and impact and there are major shifts within the series that show great courage in the part of the designers and directors. It is probably in a class of its own, connected to both the mecha theme and the odd ball mavrik type of Desert Punk and Cowboy Bebop, and the art and the music are first rate.

Planetes I started with high hopes for the graphics and some screenshots were very invisting. I lost interest after seeing the main female character, she was so drab and lack luster when a female with some sparkle in her role would have made a tremendous differnce. I agree re the realism of the space environment and issues of real space activity, in that vein it is similar to Starship Operators in actually thinking about what it may really be like to be in space and in real space ships and activities..... but i am feelinga at this point that overall Planetes did not live up to its promise and is ponderous and heavy when it needed to have more lift to it. The personal relations never really seem real to me, but I will have to look at it all again. I do agree very much with the assesemtns of the other two most recently discussed series.

I guess I can add a few...most of these are subbed only til they are licenced.

Angel Beats!
Spoiler for Angel Beats! opening - My Soul, Your Beats:

Quote:
Angel Beats! takes place at a high school acting as a Purgatory, where students learn to give up any lingering attachments they still have from life before continuing to an afterlife or reincarnation. While the injury or cause of death are gone, those in the afterlife school can still feel pain or other things as they did when they were alive, as well as dying again, only to awaken with no injures several minutes later. The story follows the main protagonist Otonashi, a boy who lost his memories of his life after dying. Upon awakening in the afterlife, he meets a girl named Yuri who invites him to join the Shinda Sekai Sensen (SSS) (Afterlife War Front), an organization she founded and leads which fights against God for the cruel fates the SSS members experienced in life. Their only enemy in the world is the school's student council president Angel, a being with supernatural powers who fights against the SSS. Yuri believes that anyone who follows Angel's orders and behaves like a normal student at the school will eventually disappear and pass on.

I spent two days watching this anime...I fell in love with it. A great story with lots of action in the mix.

Angel Beats was written by Jun Maeda, the same author of other animes such as Air, Kanon, and Clannad. You can clearly see the resemblance to Clannad in the animation and artstyle. Also just like the others you get a well written story with tear-jerking moments in the end of the series, but you also get the bloody actions scenes as the group takes on the Angel and other dangers.

The opening is very well animated and beautiful. The song as well, "My Soul, Your Beats," is very beautiful and peaceful even toping the charts in Japan upon its release. The anime's OST is also as pleasant, giving you the feelings and emotions of the scene that is being played.

My final Judgement - 10/10This anime is licensed by Sentai with no word of a dub as of yet.

Code Geass: Code Geass is seen as one of the top anime by many people and for good reason. There are many descriptions that go into this anime. Action, drama, mecha, and some romance. It's a war story but far from average. If you enjoyed Death Note, you'll definitely enjoy code Geass.

The story is about a boy named Lelouch who acquires a certain power. He ends up using this power to lead the rebels against the Britannian Nation, even though he is actually a prince of Britannia. I won’t go much into it so nothing major is spoiled.

One thing that makes this such a great anime is that it is very realistic. Of course, you will see many aspects of the story that are obviously unrealistic, but the progression of the story is just what you'd expect in a war story. It takes you on a roller coaster ride, but I feel like the ending was a little predictable (though this depends on who you ask. because I’ve talked with people who said the opposite.) though there is no other way it could've ended.

All in all, it is definitely a must watch and I’d give it a 9/10

Anyone know any decent dubbed animes that came out in the past 2 years? I wanna get back into anime, but I've been out of the loop for a long time and don't know where to start.
